Queensland Public Health Act

ABC Radio Brisbane Drive on 23 June discussed Queensland’s Public Health Amendment Act which provides the Chief Health Officer with exceptional powers to protect public health in response to the coronavirus pandemic. In the segment the presenter stated that the amendment suspended constitutional rights and some constitutional provisions; this was incorrect. The amendment does not suspend constitutional rights or constitutional provisions. It amends the constitution only to the extent that it allows meetings of Executive Council to be held via technology.
